    “Bulgargaz” and BOTAŞ signed an agreement granting access to the gas transmission network and the LNG terminals in Turkey

    In the presence of the energy ministers of Bulgaria and Turkey, Rosen Hristov and Fatih Dönmez at the Council of Ministers, an agreement was signed, granting Bulgargaz EAD access to the gas transmission infrastructure of the Turkish state owned enterprise BOTAŞ. In addition to the pipelines, there are five LNG terminals available to the Turkish company. The agreement has a duration of 13 years. It enables 1.5 billion cubic metres of gas to be transferred annually between the two countries during this period.

    Minister Nikolov attended the inauguration ceremony of the Interconnector Greece – Bulgaria

    Energy Minister Alexander Nikolov, along with the Prime Ministers of Bulgaria and Greece, Kiril Petkov and Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the Greek Minister of Environment and Energy Kostas Skrekas, the Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan Parviz Shahbazov and other officials, participated in the inauguration ceremony of the Interconnector Greece – Bulgaria (IGB) near the Greek town of Komotini. The facility is essential for energy security in the region. Being in synergy with the TAP and TANAP, as well as with the existing and future liquefied natural gas terminals, the interconnector will provide supply of natural gas from different sources – the Caspian region, Qatar, Egypt, Israel, the USA and others. Thus, the gas pipeline is a major factor in diversifying natural gas sources, the importance of which has increased after the unilateral suspension of gas deliveries by Gazprom Export.

This said Energy Minister Alexander Nikolov, who participated in the Energy Week in Baku, Azerbaijan. As part of the thematic events is the 27th edition of the Energy Forum, involving the Energy Minister of Azerbaijan the Parviz Shahbazov, the Energy Minister of Romania, Virgil Daniel Popescu, the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova, Andrei Spinu, the Deputy Minister of Energy of Turkey, Alparslan Bayraktar, representatives of the European Commission and the US State Department, and others. The main topics of discussions during the Forum are related to energy transformation.

Rossen Hristov: Maximum flexible conditions for the hydrogen market are required

Bulgaria has the potential to be a leader in green hydrogen production in the region. “The hydrogen market is young, so we must provide the most flexible conditions for its development, taking into account the specificities and potential of each Member State. We will only stimulate a rapid development of production, consumption and trade, Energy Minister Rossen Hristov said today at a meeting of the EU energy ministers in Luxembourg. In his words a comfortable transition period should be provided and existing resources and infrastructure should be used to reduce initial investments. “Once we see how the market is actually evolving, we will be able to talk about more specific regulations to allow us to realize the full potential,” Hristov stressed.

Launch of the procedure for a strategic investor for "Belene" NPP project

In implementation of decisions of the National Assembly of 7 June 2018 and of the Council of Ministers of 29 June 2018, Natsionalna Elektricheska Kompania EAD announces a call for selection of a strategic investor for the construction of Belene nuclear power plant. The call also allows for expressions of interest to acquire a minority shareholding in the future project, as well as and/or to purchase electricity from the future power plant. An application in the procedure for selection of a strategic investor or, respectively, interest in acquiring a minority share in the project company may be submitted by Bulgarian or foreign legal entities, as well as consortium thereof. The deadline for receipt of applications shall be until the 90th day as of the date on which the call is published in the Official Journal of the European Union.
