Meeting of Energy Ministers of Bulgaria and Türkiye

On 27 July 2023 in the city of Ankara, the Republic of Türkiye, Bulgarian Energy Minister Rumen Radev and Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar conducted a bilateral meeting that was attended by Bulgaria's Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria to Türkiye, Angel Cholakov, representatives of the two ministries, business leaders of state energy companies on both sides.

The participants held talks on the good cooperation between the two sides in the field of energy, highlighting the strong potential to increase cross-border transmission of natural gas and electricity, as well as new opportunities for co-operation in the field of RES, hydrogen and nuclear energy. Challenges related to carbon neutrality, energy efficiency and the transformation of the energy sector were also among the topics discussed.

Views were exchanged on the existing relations between the parties and the state-owned energy companies, including on LNG supplies, gas grid capacity and the upcoming market test, as well as trade exchanges of electricity. The Bulgarian side underlined its strong commitment as a full Member of the Common European Energy Market and the resulting obligations in developing its cooperation and good neighbor relations with the countries of the region.

The two sides agreed to discuss a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation in the field of Energy to extend and build on mutually beneficial arrangements already agreed.
