Minister Malinov: Investments in secure equipment will contribute to a sustainable energy development
“Continued investment in secure equipment will contribute to the sustainable development of the Bulgarian energy sector”. That is what Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov said at a meeting to present power generation technology: opportunities and prospects for a sustainable development. The event was organized by the American Chamber of Commerce, Solar Turbines and Glavbolgarstroy. The United States Ambassador to Bulgaria H.E Kenneth Merten also attended the meeting.
During the discussion, Minister Malinov highlighted the successful ten-year cooperation of Bulgaria with the leading energy equipment manufacturer, the U.S. Company Solar Turbines. “After the large-scale project to modernize compressor stations and build two new ones, a total of 17 state-of-the-art low-emission gas turbine compressor units produced by the company operate in Bulgaria. They meet the highest operational and environmental standards”, he recalled. According to Minister Malinov, energy infrastructure has a key role to play in ensuring the reliability and flexibility of the network. “The modernized Bulgarian gas transmission system thus provides access to significant quantities of natural gas from various sources, including liquefied natural gas, for all countries in the region,” Minister Malinov underlined. “As part of the project to expand Chiren underground gas storage facility, 4 additional Solar Turbines compressors will be installed at the UGS site to meet the necessary technical parameters to double the capacity of the storage facility,” he added.
“Our country is already facing a number of challenges in balancing renewable energy. In this respect, we should invest in balancing capacity that will provide a sustainable solution,“ Malinov said. He expressed confidence that Solar Turbines' experience in the manufacture of gas turbines for power generation would contribute to fulfilling our energy transition goals.
