Deputy Minister Iva Petrova: An integrated approach is needed to build adequate infrastructure to support ambitious decarbonizacion goals
The Ministry of Energy continues to participate in the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Azerbaijan
“The ambitious decarbonization goals we are committed to are rapidly transforming Europe, promoting its greener future. In order to achieve these objectives, we need a common integrated approach to planning and building adequate infrastructure.” This was said by Deputy Energy Minister Iva Petrova, who participated in a Regional Connectivity Forum organized by the United Kingdom in the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Baku, Azerbaijan. The event focused on speeding up clean energy corridors from the North Sea to Central Asia at the UK COP29 pavillion in Baku.
According to Deputy Minister Petrova, new transmission lines across the continent, together with storage technologies, are a prerequisite not only for successful integration of new renewable sources through the creation of “power corridors”, but also for maintaining system and supply security.
Earlier within the framework of COP29 Bulgaria presented its Energy Connectivity Dialogues initiative in support of the regional partnerships of the European political community for an improved energy transition. The initiative calls for enhanced inter-regional cooperation to support the construction of more sustainable, secure and clean energy systems. Kerry McCarthy, UK Minister for Climate Change, noted Bulgaria's leadership role in the region in this process and the commitment to continue the dialogue between Bulgaria and the UK on the subject.
“I am delighted to hear the perspectives shared by our partners on the interregional cooperation we propose, which will contribute to the competitiveness of our economies and the well-being of our citizens,” Iva Petrova underlined.
