Renewable Energy Sources
The use of renewable energy sources, together with the rational use of energy is an important driving force of sustainable development whilst ensuring the objectives for security of energy supply, reduction the dependence on swings in oil prices and reducing the trade imbalance and encourages the creation of new jobs.
Bulgaria is actively involved in the international efforts for preventing climate change by adopting the agreed objectives of the European Union and large-scale package of measures on energy. These measures give a new boost to energy security in Europe and support the European "20-20-20" targets. The widespread use of renewables and the introduction of energy efficiency measures are among the priorities in the country's energy policy which correspond to the new European energy policy.
In the existing legislation, energy policy in Bulgaria on renewable energy sources is determined by the Energy Act and the Energy from Renewable Sources Act. In the First National Action Plan for the Energy from Renewable sources the mandatory and indicative targets for the share of energy from renewable sources as well as the measures for achieving these targets are set.
