2026 Recovery and Resilience Plan

In implementation of investment C4.I7: Increasing the use of renewable energy from geothermal sources under the Recovery and Resilience Plan, within the framework of a signed agreement with the World Bank, an online tool has been developed to serve as a centralized platform for geothermal data, supporting informed decision-making by investors and other stakeholders. It increases transparency, facilitates site identification and project development, and contributes to the overall strengthening of the geothermal sector in Bulgaria.

The tool can be accessed via the following LINK

Geothermal Energy for Energy Security in Bulgaria RAS (G4ES) -

The tool is not designed for shallow geothermal resources (up to 200 m depth), including geothermal heat pump projects. The user can estimate the costs of a geothermal heat pump project and compare them with the costs of alternative heating solutions using other tools such as European Heat Pump Association Calculator: https://myheatpump.ehpa.org/en/heat-pump-cal

2025 REEEES Program

Under the program "Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency, Energy Security", financed under the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area (EEA FM) 2014 - 2021 and with the program operator the Ministry of Energy with the partner organizations from the donor countries, the Directorate for Energy and Water Resources (NVE) of the Kingdom of Norway and the National Energy Authority (OS) of Iceland, 5 projects for the reconstruction of existing or construction of new heating systems or for heating and cooling of buildings using geothermal energy have been successfully implemented.

5 projects for the use of geothermal energy for heating and/or cooling in state or munisipally owned buildings under the REEEES program (availible only Bulgarian language)
