Westinghouse Electric signed memoranda of understanding with Bulgarian companies to support new nuclear projects in Bulgaria and the region
Westinghouse Electric signed memoranda of understanding with key Bulgarian suppliers in support of upcoming nuclear projects based on the AP1000 technology at the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant site in northern Bulgaria and other projects throughout the region.
The event took place at the American Chamber of Commerce building in Sofia, in the presence of Energy Minister Mr. Rumen Radev, the U.S. Ambassador to Bulgaria H.E. Kenneth Merten, the Chairperson of the National Assembly’s Committee on Energy, Mr. Delyan Dobrev, and other guests.
The five Bulgarian companies that signed the memoranda of understanding with Westinghouse Electric are “Oscar-El”, “Glavbolgarstroy”, “ENPRO Consult”, “EnergoService” and “EQE Bulgaria”. This enhances the potential for cooperation in the production of key components, including control and management systems, radiation monitoring systems, as well as the provision of various engineering, consultancy and construction services.
Minister Rumen Radev underlined he is extremely pleased that five Bulgarian companies have taken part in the building of new nuclear capacity and expects more to join soon. He added that building a local supply chain in the long term is crucial for our national interest, and the Energy Ministry team will do their utmost to support this process.
David Durham, President of “Energy Systems, Westinghouse Electric Company” said that Bulgaria's nuclear supply chain has extensive experience and is key in supporting the company's efforts to successfully deliver the most modern and globally renowned AP1000 reactor.
Westinghouse Electric expressed confidence that cooperation with Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant EAD on the project to build a new nuclear unit with AP1000 technology would also create a large ecosystem of local companies working in the field of nuclear engineering, which would become the backbone of the future nuclear industry based on this technology across Europe.
