Minister Malinov spoke in Seoul with the chairman of the Trade, Industry, Energy, SMEs and Startups Committee in the National Assembly Lee Chul-gyu
The project for the construction of Kozloduy NPP’s 7th and 8th units that is the largest project not only in Bulgaria but also in the entire region has the full support at the institutional level from the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea. This became clear during the meeting of the Minister of Energy Vladimir Malinov with Lee Chul-gyu, Chairman of the Trade, Industry, Energy, SMEs and Startup Committee in the Korean National Assembly where the President and CEO of Hyundai Engineering and Construction Yoon Young-joon was present as well. “We highly appreciate the willingness of Hyundai Engineering and Construction to work together with Westinghouse Electric Corporation so that the two companies together provide an integrated engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of the new facilities. This will guarantee the successful implementation of the project within the set deadlines" Minister Malinov said to his hosts. The participants in the meeting emphasized their common vision for the implementation of the project in strict compliance with the original schedule and budget.
Minister Malinov and the chairman of the Trade, Industry, Energy, SMEs and Startup Committee in the National Assembly of the country Lee Chul-gyut also discussed the potential opportunities to deepen the cooperation between the two countries, making a commitment to promote their joint activities in all areas of mutual interest. "The Republic of Korea is an important partner in the field of climate change solutions, renewable energy sources and energy efficiency, nuclear power, new energy technologies and others” highlighted Minister Malinov during his visit in the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea. In his words, the promotion of investments of companies from the two countries in the energy field will contribute to the implementation of the energy transition.
In front of representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, the Bulgarian Energy Minister accentuated the 50-year experience of our country in the operation of nuclear energy. In this context, the issue relating to the prospects discussed in the Republic of Korea of building a spent nuclear fuel storage was also considered. The two countries will also exchange experience in the construction and operation of hydroelectric power plants and pumped-storage hydroelectric power plants as the most promising energy storage capacities.
