Temenuzhka Petkova and Alexander Novak to discuss South Stream in a telephone conversation
South Stream Project will be the topic of discussion in the upcoming telephone conversation between the Minister of Energy Temenuzhka Petkova and her Russian counterpart Alexander Novak. Talks are expected to be held on Friday.
It is also recalled that at the previous meeting of the Council of Ministers, the Prime Minister Boyko Borisov outlined concrete steps on the South Stream case before the ministers. As parts thereof, Bulgaria has already submitted to the Deputy Chairman of the Commission for Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič a formal proposal for the construction of a gas hub in the country.
As a result of the talks held a week ago in Brussels between Vice- President Šefčovič and overnments’ representatives of Bulgaria, Greece, Austria, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Romania and Hungary, Mr Šefčovič is authorized by the Member-States to negotiate with Russia on the future of South Stream Project. The telephone conversation arranged between Minister Petkova and Russian counterpart Novak is a part of the efforts of our country to support this process as well as a final decision on the project to be taken.
In early December, the Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia will not continue to execute South Stream. However, the Bulgarian side has not received a formal notice from the Russian partners so far.
