Moldova relies on Bulgaria to guarantee energy supply
“Moldova relies on the Bulgarian side to provide alternative gas supplies after the potential suspension of the transportation of Russian natural gas through Ukrainian territory.” That is what Moldovan Energy Minister Victor Parlicov underlined during a meeting with the Bulgarian Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov. They discussed the key role of the Vertical Gas Corridor concept for Southeast Europe. Both ministers agreed that the implementation of projects to increase transmission capacities between Greece and Bulgaria, as well as between Bulgaria and Romania, in the shortest possible timeframe is vital for the energy security of the region.
“Bulgaria will continue to support Moldova and Ukraine in providing affordable and secure energy. Diversifying gas supplies and reducing dependence on Russia remain our common priority,“ Minister Malinov pointed out. According to the Bulgarian Energy Minister, Moldova could rely on alternative supplies from the LNG terminals in Greece and Turkey, for which the Bulgarian side has reserved capacities. “It is precisely through the route of the Vertical Gas Corridor and via the well-developed Bulgarian gas transmission network that access to liquefied natural gas from reliable sources for Southeast Europe will be ensured,” Minister Mallinov emphasized.
The two united around the fact that the companies Bulgargaz EAD and Moldova’s AO Energocom should cooperate with the aim of reaching specific agreements to ensure supplies to Moldova.
