“The development of hydrogen technologies in the energy sector will respond to the challenges of climate change. Their application will provide reliable, affordable and clean energy in the future." That is what Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov said at the beginning of the Days of Hydrogen Electromobility in Bulgaria. The event is part of the European campaign to promote hydrogen technologies in transportation services of Central and Eastern Europe.

“The energy sector is placed in a new context – environmental protection requirements and combating climate change, electricity market volatility, as well as the war in Ukraine. Finding an alternative source of green energy, such as hydrogen, and its application in various areas of industry is of major importance“, Minister Malinov said. He recalled that Bulgaria's gas transmission operator Bulgartransgaz EAD is working on several different hydrogen projects that will provide new prospects for the Bulgarian energy sector. Bulgartransgaz, together with the Greek operator, has developed a project to build infrastructure for transporting hydrogen from Greece to Bulgaria, which will be extended to Romania in the future. It is included in the list of Projects of Common Interest of the EC and we count on receiving funding,” Malinov underlined. “We are also developing a pilot project that will be carried out in the Chiren underground gas storage facility, which will allow the use of green hydrogen for its own needs,” the Energy Minister added.

Minister Malinov expressed confidence that our country will continue to develop hydrogen technologies to establish them as clean and affordable energy.
