Minister Malinov: Bulgaria and Moldova will continue their strategic cooperation on energy security in the region
Both parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Energy Security at COP29
To establish a framework to deepen cooperation in the field of energy security, based on the principle of mutual benefit and taking into account the common interests of both countries. This is one of the main objectives of the Memorandum of Understanding on Energy Security between Bulgaria and Moldova, which was signed by the energy ministers of the two countries Vladimir Malinov and Victor Parlicov in Baku during the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate change.
“Bulgaria will continue to support Moldova in its efforts to ensure energy security through diversified supplies from various sources,” Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov said upon signing the document. In his words, Moldova can rely on alternative supplies from LNG terminals in Greece and Turkey, where our country has reserved capacity. “The well-developed Bulgarian gas and electricity network is an excellent prerequisite for ensuring secure and competitive supplies for our Southeast European partners,” the Bulgarian Energy Minister stressed as well.
By signing the Memorandum, the Parties agree to work towards establishing a framework and principles for joint actions to assess risks, prevent and manage crisis situations in the supply of electricity and/or natural gas in the markets of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Moldova. They will coordinate their actions to ensure continuity of supply for their consumers, without prejudice to the fulfilment of their obligations within the Energy Community and the European Union.
Within six months of the signature of the Memorandum, Bulgaria and Moldova will develop a joint action plan and solidarity measures to be activated in the event of an energy crisis in one of the two countries.
