Energy is a major sector of cooperation between Bulgaria and France. Both countries will cooperate successfully not only in the field of nuclear energy, but also have a mutual interest in the implementation of projects in the fields of renewable energy production, hydro-energy development and district heating. These were jointly agreed by Energy Minister Rumen Radev, the Head of the Cabinet, Ms. Karina Angelieva, and the Ambassador of France to Bulgaria H.E. Joël Meyer and the French Embassy's first adviser, Ms. Stephanie Petibon.

The supply of fresh nuclear fuel from Framatome for Unit 6 of Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant, the possibilities for extending the life of Unit 5 and Unit 6, the production of hydrogen from nuclear power, the technology of small modular reactors and the possibilities for smaller but more flexible capacity were among the topics discussed.

Minister Radev expressed hope that the two countries would expand their good co-operation and readiness for future regular meetings.

Ambassador Meyer agreed that the energy sector offers many opportunities for bilateral co-operation and added that French companies are interested in investing not only in nuclear energy but also in offshore wind, solar and hydrogen power.

The meeting focused on the mutual support of Bulgaria and France at European level and their common view that nuclear energy contributes to the implementation of the energy transformation and the Green Deal.
