Bulgaria and Türkiye advance their work on a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation in the field of Energy
Opportunities for expanding energy co-operation between Bulgaria and Türkiye were discussed this Thursday at a meeting in the Energy Ministry, attended by Minister Rumen Radev, his deputies Iva Petrova and Krassimir Nenov, the Head of the Cabinet Ms. Karina Angelieva and the Director of Energy Projects and International Co-operation Directorate Ms. Veneta Tsvetkova with the Ambassador of Türkiye to Bulgaria H. E. Aylin Sekizkök.
Progress on the texts of the Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries was reviewed. The text was agreed upon in principle by Minister Radev and his Turkish counterpart Alparslan Bayraktar during their meeting in Ankara on 27 June 2023. Bulgaria would like to expand the text of the memorandum and propose to include cooperation in the field of nuclear energy, both, in terms of regulations and standards, and in terms of exchange of experience.
Ambassador Sekizkök stressed that it is crucial for Türkiye to have a good partnership with Bulgaria. She added that a number of Turkish companies are interested in investing in RES projects in our country and they are willing to learn more about the Bulgarian geothermal potential. Minister Radev shared that our efforts on geothermal energy have so far been concentrated in the legislative field. He added that Bulgaria would be happy to analyze the Turkish experience concerning geothermal energy.
