An agreement has been reached on the European renewable energy directive
After long trialogue talks on the EC proposal for the Renewable Energy Directive, an agreement was reached. The document is part of the "Clean Energy for All European" package, which is considered by the Council "Transport, Telecommunications and Energy" during the first Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU.
The new regulatory framework provides for a binding EU-wide target of a 32% share for renewable energy, with the possibility of revision in 2023. Among the main accents in the adopted document are: improvement of RES support schemes, reduction of administrative procedures, establishment of a stable regulatory framework, increase in the level of ambition for the transport and heating/cooling sectors.
After the final adoption of the proposed Renewable Energy Directive by the European Parliament and the Council of the EU, the new legislation will be published in the Official Journal of the EU.
