Regional energy cooperation was the focus of the meeting between the Energy Ministry team and the ambassadors of USA to Bulgaria and to Greece
The potential for energy cooperation between the countries in the region was a key topic of discussion at the meeting between the Energy Ministry team and the ambassadors of USA to Bulgaria and to Greece, H.E. Kenneth Merten and H.E. George Tsunis.
The US Ambassador to Greece underlined that it is vital for Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine to develop their corridor to provide secure and affordable energy for the whole region.
Minister Rumen Radev introduced the ambassadors to Bulgaria's export potential in the field of electricity and our new projects that will increase cross-border connectivity. The Energy Minister noted that Bulgaria is a key player in the transit of natural gas due to our well-developed infrastructure, whose capacity consistently expands.
Nuclear capacity development was a key issue of discussion, in line with the recently signed Declaration to triple nuclear energy. Minister Radev underscored that the new nuclear capacity project in Kozloduy is the most promising one in the region. All participants agreed that achieving optimal balance between energy security and affordability comes from combining base load capacity, such as nuclear, renewables, investments in cross-border connectivity and storage capacity.
