Minister Radev spoke in Brussels with the Director General of the DG "Energy" in the EC Ditte Juul Jørgensen

Increasing energy connectivity, deploying hydrogen and strengthening cooperation between the countries in South-Eastern Europe - these were among the main topics of the discussion between the Minister of Energy Rumen Radev with the Director General of the General Directorate "Energy" of the European Commision, Ms. Ditte Juul Jørgensen. On the Bulgarian side, Deputy Minister Iva Petrova and the Head of the Political Cabinet Karina Angelieva also participated in the meeting.

Minister Radev informed Ms. Ditte Juul Jørgensen about the signed joint declaration between Bulgaria, Greece and Romania within the meeting of the High Level Group for Energy Connectivity in Central and Southeast Europe -CESEC, held in Athens on 18 and 19 January. The purpose of the document is to promote strengthening of the cooperation in RES by preparing joint cross-border projects in the field of offshore wind energy, hydrogen from renewable energy sources and electric vehicle charging infrastructure. During the meeting, the key role of offshore energy in achieving the EU's long-term decarbonization goals was noted, as well as the importance of the process of deploying capacities and equipment for the production of green hydrogen. Regarding electric mobility, Minister Radev informed that together with ESO EAD, the possibilities for building charging stations along the republican road network and urbanized territories are currently analyzed. For their successful development, incentives and adequate funding at the EU level will undoubtedly be necessary.

The key importance of gas infrastructure in ensuring energy connectivity and energy supply in the South- East Europe region was also among the topics discussed. In this context, Minister Radev drew attention to the need for financial support from the EU for projects within the Vertical Gas Corridor (including increasing connectivity with North Macedonia), taking into account the possibilities of this type of infrastructure for its subsequent adaptation for hydrogen transmission.

Ms. Jørgensen appreciated Bulgaria's efforts and achievements in guaranteeing supplies during the energy crisis, which is important for energy security in the entire region. She expressed high opinion on the successful CESEC meeting in Athens and the signed Declaration between Bulgaria, Greece and Romania. The General Director of DG "Energy" also reported the increasingly intensive work at international level for the introduction of hydrogen.

Regarding the financing of priority projects relevant to EU energy security and reducing dependence on third countries for natural gas imports, Ms. Jørgensen highlighted the REPowerEU plan, which supports the diversification of energy supplies.
