Minister Temenuzhka Petkova participated in the meeting of the energy ministers in the framework of the Summit meeting of the Atlantic Council in Istanbul. This year the main theme of the forum is the changing geopolitical energy security. The participants in the meeting were adamant that energy security is a component of both: national and international security. In order energy security to be guaranteed, it is mandatory to build the necessary energy infrastructure and the countries to have access to various energy sources.

"Bulgaria follows the principles of the Energy Union to create a sustainable energy market in the country and the region of Southeastern Europe. The Bulgarian Government continues to work on one of its main priorities - diversifying sources and routes of natural gas supply." That is what Minister Petkova said during the discussion on the development of the Energy Union. According to the participants, Bulgaria is of critical importance for the energy security of the region of Southeastern Europe.

During the ministerial meeting, the special envoy and coordinator for international energy affairs at the U.S. Department of State, Amos J. Hochstein, praised the progress of the Bulgarian Government in the implementation of the interconnector with Greece. "We have reached agreement on all issues with our Greek partners, and on 10 December in Sofia, the final investment decision for the construction of the gas interconnector Greece–Bulgaria will be signed", Minister Petkova announced during the discussion. According to her, the country continues to rapidly work on the interconnector with Serbia that will allow the integration of the markets in the region.

At the Atlantic Council Summit Minister Petkova also held a working meeting with Minister of Energy and Mining of Ukraine Mr. Volodomir Demchishin. They discussed issues of mutual interest in the energy sectors of both countries.
