Minister Petkova has taken over the rotating presidency of the Council "Transport, Telecommunications and Energy", part "Energy"
Bulgarian Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova took over the presidency of the Council "Transport, Telecommunications and Energy", part "Energy", from the Minister of Economic Affairs and Infrastructure of Estonia, Ms Kadri Simson, during the last formal Council meeting. Petkova thanked the Estonian Presidency for the important achievements under the general programme of the trio Estonia, Bulgaria and Austria. At the Council meeting, EU energy ministers reached a general approach on the legislative package "Clean Energy for all Europeans" — the regulation on the governance of the Energy Union, the directives on electricity and renewable energy and the electricity regulation. "We will work actively to promote partnerships at all levels on the basis of an integrated approach and joint cooperation with focus on regional cooperation with the Western Balkans", Minister Petkova underlined.
"Building a stable European Energy Union and achievement of positive results on current topics of the agenda of the Council of the EU are a main focus of the programme of the first Bulgarian Presidency. It is important to implement a gradual and economically justified transition to low-carbon energy, taking into account the national specificities of the energy sector in each Member State", Petkova said. According to the Energy Minister, Bulgaria will participate in the achievement of further progress in the discussions on the legislative package "Clean Energy for all Europeans". Among the key objectives of Bulgaria is the development of the potential of regional cooperation through building the missing infrastructure to guarantee the security of energy supply. For ensuring energy security in South East Europe it is of crucial importance to have functioning gas interconnectors with neighbouring countries, as well as to create European gas hub on the Balkans, the Bulgarian energy minister added in presenting the programme of the Bulgarian Presidency in the energy sector.
Over the next six months there will be councils of the energy ministers, as well as over twenty conferences and meetings on energy issues that will take place in Bulgaria.
