Deputy Energy Minister Anton Pavlov signed today in Dubrovnik a Memorandum of Understanding for a common approach to solve the challenges of diversification and security of supply of natural gas to Central and Southeastern Europe

Three projects with Bulgarian participation are among the seven priority projects in the Action Plan to the Memorandum of Understanding for a common approach to solve the challenges of diversification and security of gas supplies. On behalf of Bulgaria, Deputy Energy Minister Anton Pavlov signed the document today, July 10, 2015 in Dubrovnik.

The priority projects with Bulgarian participation, which should be implemented according to the Action Plan to the Memorandum, are: the interconnector Greece - Bulgaria (IGB), the interconnector Bulgaria - Serbia (IBS) and the rehabilitation, modernization and enlargement of Bulgarian national gas transmission system. These projects are part of seven projects in total that are defined as crucial to the solution of regional energy problems and as being at an advanced stage. Due to their implementation, the aim of the countries from Central and Eastern Europe and the Adriatic region to have at least three sources of natural gas supply will be achieved.

"I am glad we have managed to defend three projects with Bulgarian participation and that they have been chosen as priorities at European level. I am confident that their implementation will contribute to the security of natural gas supply to Southeastern Europe and to the modernization and rehabilitation of Bulgarian gas transmission infrastructure", Deputy Minister Pavlov said after signing the document.

The Memorandum of Understanding for a common approach to solve the challenges of diversification and security of supply of natural gas is part of the initiative to create gas interconnections in Central and Southeastern Europe. This initiative is established among the European Commission, member-states of the High Level Group for Central and South East Europe Gas Connectivity and the contracting countries from the Energy Community. The Memorandum of Understanding is intended to form the political will for a common, coherent and uniform regional approach to create natural gas interconnectivity in the countries of Central and Southeastern Europe.

The High Level Group CESEC was established and held its first meeting in Sofia on February 9, 2015.
